Tabitha Moses
The works produced during the artist's residency came about through an exploration of materials and objects. As I knotted thread beneath chairs and stools my mind turned to thoughts of geometry and the universe - infinity, cosmology, Islamic art, physics, mathematical diagrams and the formation of crystals. The thread shapes exist on several planes and depend upon the play of light and the movement of the viewer for their appearance and disappearance.
Unlike the chair and stools, the two boxes are rendered useless by the thread entwining them. Boxes are intriguing – they must be opened, their secrets revealed. That impulse is subverted by a delicate web, although an uncovered keyhole continues to act as an invitation.
Several pieces are quietly placed throughout the church, inviting an intimate, maybe surprising, discovery.
