Evolve was an interactive drawing installation which took place at the Cornerstone Gallery, Liverpool.
Visitors were invited to contribute to a large-scale drawing on one of the walls of the Cornerstone Gallery. The project enabled 20 artists to carry out paid residencies at the Gallery and incorporated drawing workshops with schools.

Evolve was part of the Independent strand of the Liverpool Biennial 2004. It ran from 18th September to 28th November, one of the few projects to be in place for the entire duration of the Biennial.

The Big Draw 2004
Evolve was registered as an official Big Draw event. The Big Draw is an annual national campaign for drawing which takes place in October. Evolve benefited from the publicity generated by The Big Draw, appearing in "The Big Draw Guide" which was distributed nationally with The Independent Newspaper on 25th September 2004 and on The Big Draw website

Generations
Throughout the project, sections of the drawing wall were randomly selected, cut out and displayed around the walls of the Cornerstone Gallery.

The Generations were not intended to "finished pieces". They represent a by-product of a mechanical process-led installation of evolving drawing and human interaction.

Each Generation is numbered according to when it was extracted from the main drawing. There were ten different Generations produced.

Generation 5, number 1.
